The Megabrantis Cluster
The political hub of the Galaxy and headquarters of the Galactic Civil Service. Within a few short Vog years of discovering interstellar travel, every last Vogon migrated from Vogsphere to the Megabrantis Cluster.
Sector Dossier: The Megabrantis Cluster
"Thus the planet Vogsphere whiled away the unhappy millennia until the Vogons suddenly discovered the principles of interstellar travel. Within a few short Vog years every last Vogon had migrated to the Megabrantis cluster, the political hub of the Galaxy, and now formed the immensely powerful backbone of the Galactic Civil Service."
— The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Chapter 5
The Megabrantis Cluster is a densely populated stellar cluster that serves as the central political and administrative hub of the Galaxy. Housing the labyrinthine ministries of the Imperial Galactic Government, the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council, and the central archives of the Galactic Civil Service, it is the undisputed bureaucratic capital of known space.
The Great Vogon Migration
For unhappy millennia, the Vogons remained confined to their ancestral swamp world of Vogsphere under the Vogsol sun, passing the time by smashing scintillating jewelled scuttling crabs with iron mallets and sitting on fragile gazelle-like creatures. That isolation ended abruptly when the Vogons discovered the principles of interstellar travel:
- Total Abandonment of Vogsphere: Within a few short Vog years of achieving spaceflight, every last Vogon migrated out of the Vogsphere system and relocated permanently to the Megabrantis Cluster.
- Backbone of the Galactic Civil Service: Finding the cluster's political climate perfectly suited to their thick dark-green rubbery skins and callous, bad-tempered, officious nature, the Vogons rapidly established themselves as the immensely powerful backbone of the Galactic Civil Service.
- Cultural Pretensions & Annual Crab Imports: Since settling in the Megabrantis Cluster, the Vogons have attempted to acquire learning, style, and social grace. In most respects, however, the modern Megabrantis civil servant is little different from his primitive Vogsphere forebears: every year, the Vogons import twenty-seven thousand scintillating jewelled scuttling crabs from their native planet and while away a happy drunken night smashing them to bits with iron mallets.
The Horsehead Nebula
A dark, dense interstellar dust cloud that shrouded the legendary planet-manufacturing world of Magrathea. Navigated by the Heart of Gold on conventional photon drive.
The Outer Eastern Rim
The vast, windswept border frontier lying on the eastern fringe of the Galactic disc. Famous for soggy marsh worlds, wild mattress habitats, and hyperspatial navigational hazards.
