Sentient Species

Belcerebon

Gentle, philosophical beings from Kakrafoon who were cursed with involuntary telepathy, forcing them to chatter endlessly about weather and trivialities to avoid hearing each other's thoughts.

Species Dossier: The Belcerebons of Kakrafoon

The Belcerebons are an ancient, dignified, and inherently gentle species native to the arid expanses of Kakrafoon. Long celebrated for their philosophical treatises and delicate dry-stone architecture, they are perhaps best known throughout the Galaxy for having endured one of the most agonizing social afflictions in living memory.

The Telepathic Affliction

Due to a disastrous quirk of genetic divergence (or an ancient galactic magistrate's spiteful verdict), the entire Belcerebon race developed potent telepathic broadcast faculties without the corresponding evolutionary mechanism to screen incoming cerebral noise:

  • The Noise of Others: Every private reflection, petty annoyance, passing anxiety, and tune stuck in anyone's head was instantly transmitted to every Belcerebon within a several-mile perimeter.
  • The Survival Strategy: In order to avoid descending into shrieking madness from the psychic clamor, every Belcerebon took to talking loudly and continuously about utter banalities. A Belcerebon would greet a friend by shouting descriptions of kitchen utensils or discoursing at high volume upon the seasonal humidity for fourteen consecutive hours.

The Great Acoustic Liberation

The Belcerebons' long nightmare came to a dramatic close when Disaster Area performed their planetary concert at the Vitrified Basin. The astronomical sound pressure and electromagnetic pulse permanently disrupted the telepathic resonance frequencies across the species' cranial lobes.

Today, Belcerebons are among the quietest, most peaceful conversationalists in known space, speaking only in soft, thoughtful whispers and savoring every silent second.
