Betelgeusian
Natives of Betelgeuse Seven like Ford Prefect and Zaphod Beeblebrox. Endowed with boundless charisma, adventurous recklessness, and the innate ability to hitch a ride on passing spacecraft.
Species Dossier: Betelgeusians
Betelgeusians hail from the chaotic, high-energy star systems of Betelgeuse Five and Betelgeuse Seven. They are famous across the known cosmos for producing daring roving field researchers, flamboyant galactic politicians, and individuals who somehow manage to borrow other people's starships without getting arrested.
Biological, Cultural & Surgical Peculiarities
- Praxibetel & The Great Collapsing Hrung Disaster: The old Praxibetel communities on Betelgeuse Seven spoke an obscure Betelgeusian dialect now virtually extinct since the Great Collapsing Hrung Disaster of Gal./Sid./Year 03758 (in which an unexplained Hrung collapsed on the planet, leaving Ford Prefect's father as the sole survivor). Relocating to Betelgeuse Five, Ford's father both fathered and uncled Ford and christened him in the ancient Praxibetel tongue; when Ford never learned to pronounce his original name, his father died of shame—which remains a terminal disease in some parts of the Galaxy—while Ford's schoolmates on Betelgeuse Five nicknamed him Ix ("boy who is not able satisfactorily to explain what a Hrung is, nor why it should choose to collapse on Betelgeuse Seven").
- Extra Appendages: High-profile Betelgeusians such as Zaphod Beeblebrox famously sport a second head alongside their primary one and an extra third arm recently fitted just beneath the right one to help improve their ski-boxing.
- 600-Light-Year Subliminal Signal: In moments of great stress, every life form gives out a tiny subliminal signal communicating how far it is from the place of its birth; when Ford Prefect emitted one in The Horse and Groom, the barman reeled from the shocking 600-light-year distance back to Betelgeuse.
- Liver Resilience: Specially evolved gastrointestinal membranes allow them to consume Pan Galactic Gargle Blasters without immediate cellular disintegration.
Belcerebon
Gentle, philosophical beings from Kakrafoon who were cursed with involuntary telepathy, forcing them to chatter endlessly about weather and trivialities to avoid hearing each other's thoughts.
Dentrassi
An unruly tribe of huge, furry gourmands employed by the Vogons as catering staff on their long-haul constructor fleets. Famous as the best cooks and drinks mixers in the Galaxy, they love Vogon money, loathe the Vogons themselves, and happily smuggle hitchhikers aboard.
