Demolition Form 27B/6

"There's no point in acting all surprised about it. All the planning charts and demolition orders have been on display in your local planning department in Alpha Centauri for fifty of your Earth years, so you've had plenty of time to lodge any formal complaint and it's far too late to start making a fuss about it now."

— Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Chapter 3

An official hyperspace planning chart and planetary demolition writ issued by the Galactic Hyperspace Planning Council and enforced by Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz and the Vogon Constructor Fleet.

Statutory Display & Execution

  • The Alpha Centauri Filing: Prior to the clearance of Earth for the development of the outlying regions of the Galaxy and the building of a hyperspatial express route through the Sol system, Earth's demolition orders were placed on display in the local planning department in Alpha Centauri (four light-years away) for fifty Earth years.
  • The Cottington Counterpart: On a terrestrial scale, the municipal bypass plans for Arthur Dent's House had similarly been "on display" at the Cottington Local Planning Office for nine months in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of the Leopard."
  • Execution Duration: Once the demolition beams are energized through the ventral hatchways of the Vogon Constructor Ships, the planetary clearance process takes slightly less than two Earth minutes.
