Pressurized Can of Gnat Spray

"For some reason, if a strag discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, face flannel, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet weather gear..."

— The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Chapter 3

The Pressurized Can of Gnat Spray is an aluminum aerosol cylinder charged with an unpleasantly pungent, high-potency chemical cocktail formulated to repel biting arthropods across seven thousand ecological zones. Fitted with a wide-angle dispersion nozzle, a two-second burst creates an invisible olfactory exclusion zone of four meters.

Entomological Perils Across the Sectors

While space itself is blissfully devoid of insects, landing on any moderately warm, humid world brings immediate biological nuisance:

  • The Fallian Swamp Gnats: The warm peat wetlands of Fallia harbor billions of micro-midges that perceive carbon-based hitchhikers as delightful confectionery. A generous spritz of gnat spray around one's collar keeps the swarm at bay while one lounges upon the moss.
  • The Basalt Mites of Traal: On the foggy crags of Traal, biting subterranean fleas infest the moss caverns. Experienced travelers spray their socks and trouser cuffs before wrapping their Towel around their eyes to ward off the Bugblatter Beast.
  • Precautionary Warning: Do not discharge inside an enclosed spaceship cabin unless all crew members are currently wearing breathing apparatus or are already unconscious.
